About me:
I’m Kalyan, a psychologist and the founder of MindKalyan. My journey into mental health and counseling began with my own life challenges. After serving in the Air Force and transitioning to the corporate world, I discovered the transformative power of Nature Cure and its impact on mental and physical well-being. This inspired me to combine my background in Clinical Psychology with a holistic approach to health.

In 2017, I started PSYSolutions to promote natural health and wellness. Over the years, I’ve faced significant personal challenges, including neuropathic health issues and partial loss of vision. These experiences profoundly shaped my understanding of resilience, mental strength, and the importance of managing the mind during crises.

At MindKalyan, I bring a unique perspective that integrates science, psychology, and holistic well-being. My approach is rooted in empathy, active listening, and a deep commitment to guiding clients toward greater clarity and balance.

In recent years, I have developed a special focus on parenting psychology. I help parents understand their own inner world and its influence on their child’s growth. My work emphasizes mindful parenting, reducing guilt and self-doubt, and creating healthier parent-child relationships by drawing from psychological theories (Freud, Piaget, Erikson, Transactional Analysis, and more).
Whether you’re navigating parenting challenges, stress, or life transitions, I aim to provide a safe, supportive space where growth feels possible and parenting feels lighter.

Know me better:

What is one of the most common struggles you see in parents today?

Many parents struggle with balancing their own emotional needs with the expectations of raising a child. They often feel guilty—whether for being too strict, too lenient, or not being “good enough.” I help parents recognize that these inner conflicts are natural, and with awareness, they can find healthier ways to respond to their child without losing themselves.

How do you support parents in moments of guilt or helplessness?

I work with parents to first understand where their guilt is coming from—whether it’s societal pressure, family expectations, or their own internal standards. Using psychological frameworks like Freud’s id–ego–superego model and mindful communication practices, I guide them to reframe guilt into self-understanding, so they can make conscious choices instead of reactive ones.

Why did you choose to be a counselor?

Because I realized that most struggles people face—whether in personal life or parenting—come from how we relate to our own mind. My own challenges taught me the importance of inner awareness. As a counselor, I help parents and individuals see how their thoughts, emotions, and past experiences shape their choices. Guiding them toward clarity and healthier relationships feels like my true calling.

What are the possible outcomes that may be experienced after your first session?

Parents often leave the very first session with a sense of relief—realizing they are not “failing,” but rather carrying unprocessed expectations and guilt. You can expect greater clarity on your parenting challenges, a new perspective on your child’s behavior, and practical insights on how to respond with more calmness and empathy. Even one session can shift the way you see yourself and your child.

What would you tell a client who is thinking about seeking counseling?

Counseling is not about fixing you—it’s about helping you discover clarity and tools you already carry within. Especially in parenting, you don’t need to become a “perfect” parent, but a more present and aware one. Counseling offers you a safe space where you can untangle confusion, process emotions, and gain confidence in your choices.

What do you think is the most common misconception about counseling?

Many believe counseling is only for people who are “broken” or in crisis. In truth, it’s for anyone who wants to understand themselves better. Parents especially think seeking help makes them “weak.” On the contrary, it shows courage and responsibility—because when you heal and grow, your child benefits too.

What are some of your strengths as a counselor that you value and appreciate?

I listen deeply, without judgment, and help parents see the layers beneath their child’s behavior—often connecting it to their own unspoken emotions or past experiences. I value empathy, patience, and the ability to explain complex psychology in simple, relatable ways that parents can immediately apply at home.

How do you handle situations where a client is struggling to make progress?

When progress feels slow, I help clients notice the small shifts they may overlook. For parents, even small changes—like responding with calm instead of anger—are major progress. I also adapt my methods, drawing on different psychological frameworks to match the client’s unique needs.

Do you think your counseling style is culture-neutral or dynamic/customized to different cultures?

It’s dynamic and deeply customized. Parenting styles are strongly shaped by culture and family history. I respect these contexts while guiding parents to find approaches that work for their unique child and values.

How do you ensure confidentiality and trust with your clients?

Confidentiality is the foundation of my work. I reassure every parent that what they share stays private. Trust is built through openness, consistency, and creating a space where they feel heard without fear of judgment.

How do you determine the progression of your session with clients?

Progression is guided by the client’s needs and goals. With parents, I begin by understanding their child’s current challenges and their emotional responses to them. Together, we set goals—whether it’s reducing daily conflicts, managing guilt, or improving communication. Each session builds on the last, with regular check-ins to adapt strategies as the parent and child grow.
